The P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences is developing a new concept of an autonomous system of long-term oceanological research based on various types of ocean energy (ASOI EO) aimed at continuous acquisition of large data sets through the wide use of various surface and underwater robotics means.Such a solution could ensure a permanent presence of scientists in the oceans with minimal use of expensive research vessels to operate. At the same time, there are great opportunities to carry out observations and research in all major areas of oceanology and hydrometeorology, to receive and transmit data to the coastal or ship Center in almost real time and from it to remotely change scientific programs. Abroad, within the framework of the Digital Ocean concept, similar work is being carried out, which determines the expediency of studying this experience. Of particular interest are the prospects for using autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles (AUVs) automatically recharged from special docking stations for long-term continuous oceanological research. The article discusses various technical solutions for the implementation of such systems and still a small experience of their use for the study of biological, geological and other processes in the World Ocean. It is shown that the duration of such AUVs can reach from several months to one or two years, which significantly expands the range of scientific programs and the possibilities of solving complex, previously inaccessible problems of oceanological research. The relevance of the issues considered in the article is determined by the existing economic and technical difficulties in performing expeditionary work by domestic research vessels.
