EFFECT OF INTERMEDIATE PLASTIC DEFORMATION ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF AN AL-CU-MG-AG ALLOY AFTER AGEING

We have investigated effect of intermediate plastic deformation on mechanical properties of aluminum alloy (Al-5,6Cu-0,72Mg-0,5Ag (in wt. %)), which was initially subjected to homogenization annealing and quenching in water. Following plastic deformation of set of samples was conducted with using uniaxial tension methods to strain of 1, 3, 5, 7% and rolling with reductions of 20, 40, 80%. Subsequent ageing was conducted at temperature of 190°C at time interval of 0.5-96 hours for achievement of maximum strengthening effect of deformed samples. An increase of intermediate plastic strain of samples leads to additional improvement of short-term strength properties by the tension. It is ascertained that increased dislocation density into crystal lattice of solid solution and formation deformation-induced boundaries are main reasons of improvement of short-term strength properties.
