Homogeneous charge, compression ignition (HCCI) engines have the potential to provide both diesel-like efficiencies and very low emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates.. A single-zone computer model has been developed to investigate the effect of dilution homogenous charge fast-burn and controlled auto-ignition (HCCI) on in-cylinder process and performance of the range extender’s (MZU’s) spark ignition engine. This model was used in studies to determine the effect of thermodynamic parameters and external EGR rates on HCCI combustion process. The simulated results indicated that the HCCI combustion process has the potential to improve MZU gasoline engine fuel consumption up to level diesel.
